Thompson Wants Help From Bush

Hotel Booking Miami, Florida Attorney Jack Thompson has been sending quite the number of letters in the last couple days with regard to the scandal involving Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff of the of the Miami law firm of Greenberg Traurig and another powerful lobbyist: the Philadelphia law firm of Blank Rome. Thompson has contacted U.S. Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) over the issue, and now has sent a letter to the leader of the Republican Party and the top man in the executive branch, George W. Bush, President of the United States of America.

In the letter to Bush, Thompson called on the President to "appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the powerhouse Republican law firm of Blank Rome regarding its questionable procurement of a post-Hurricane Katrina relief contract on behalf of its Alaska client, apparently because of the relationship it enjoys with DHS/FEMA stemming from the long financial and personal relationship between Blank Rome Chairman David Girard-diCarlo and Tom Ridge."

Thompson also noted that Blank Rome has given more money to Bush-Cheney and the RNC than any other lobbyist or law firm in the United States, and mentioned that "Blank Rome's Barbara Comstock is the front person for Tom DeLay, who is now tied, more than ever, to Jack Abramoff, in light of his plea bargain." Thompson also mentioned how the media has complained about the "revolving door" at Blank Rome and the Department of Homeland Security.

Thompson concluded the letter with the following:

Mr. President, Blank Rome has insinuated itself into the Oval Office like no other lobbyist/law firm. You would be well advised a) to get them out of there, and b) to ask Justice to determine whether these influence peddlers have done anything wrong on your watch. After Clinton, you promised a "new day"regarding such matters. After six years, let's have it.

Of course this is not the first time Thompson has mentioned Blank Rome in a letter or discussed Blank Rome in a statement. Thompson has previously taken on Blank Rome because the law firm "happens to be the law firm that represents Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., not only as that violent video game company's legal counsel in court cases but also as the chief registered lobbyist for Take-Two in both the US Senate and the US House of Representatives. " Thompson has also called Blank Rome's practices -- including their campaign against him -- unethical, and has stated that Blank Rome has many conflicts of interest.

In the past, Thompson called out President Bush for giving a tax break to Id Softare, makers of the violent videogame Doom. The tax break was given to the Dallas, Texas-based company when Bush was Governor of Texas.
