Study Confirms What Drivers Long Suspected: Bumpy Roads

Hotel Booking Buckle up, and hold on tight. Connecticut and New Jersey have some of the bumpiest roads in the nation, according to a new analysis of federal highway statistics by a nonprofit advocacy group in Washington.

He stood among hundreds of Arubans who traveled along a bumpy dirt road to see what remained of the national treasure.

Travel Agency The analysis, by the Surface Transportation Policy Project, a research group that focuses on the environmental impact of transportation issues, found that 79.5 percent of Connecticut's roads rated as fair, mediocre or poor. In New Jersey, 74 percent of the roads meet the same criteria of being in "less than good condition," it found.

Cheap Hotel The report, released Thursday, sought to assess the results of $300 billion in federal transportation spending over the last decade. It also concluded that Connecticut and New Jersey spend a relatively small portion of their federal transportation money on road repairs compared with other states.

The research study also demonstrates that travel agents are increasing their reliance on GDS systems for hotel information. Nearly 90% of travel agents say that they use their GDS and GDS shopping displays as much or more today than two years ago. Travel agents also report increased use of hotel property Web sites compared to two years ago. Travel agents are less likely now to use printed hotel directories, direct mail, fax, and the phone to gather information about hotels.

Flight Booking The group's analysis of data compiled last year by the Federal Highway Administration found that New York roads were not as bumpy as those in the neighboring states, with 49.6 percent being in "less than good condition," slightly better than the nationwide score of 49.9 percent.

When making a booking, you will need to advise your flight details and your Amsterdam city hotel details. Your transfer will be confirmed instantaneously and you will be provided with a travel voucher to present to the driver. 48 hours prior to your transfer, you will be required to call the supplier directly (the contact number will be provided on your travel voucher) to reconfirm exact pick up times and places.

Travel Agent But while the report seemed to comment on the overall condition of roadways, it was based on a very narrow analysis of one set of data a measurement called the International Roughness Index, which gauges the smoothness of road surfaces. Experts said the index does not necessarily reflect what drivers actually feel, which depends on speed, type of vehicle and other factors.

Selected Tokyo hotels as per the list below. If you are staying at one of the following hotels and wish for a hotel pick up, you MUST enter your hotel details (Name and address) in the 'Hotel Pick Up" box. If you do not indicate this at the time of booking, you will be required to call the supplier and advise them of this information directly. The supplier contact details will be on your voucher once you have a confirmed booking.

Hotel Chicago "That's only the surface of things," said Jack Lettiere, the acting New Jersey state transportation commissioner. "That is a narrow look at things."

Online Booking But Mr. Lettiere did not dispute the group's overall conclusion: New Jersey roads are in bad shape.

Travel Health Insurance "With our traffic volumes going up, truck traffic increasing, we can't keep up," he said. "We're literally beating our roadways to death."

Hotel Reservation In Connecticut, officials disputed the study's findings. Charles S. Barone, the state's transportation planning director, said a new master transportation plan, published this week, concluded that 81 percent of state roads were rated good or better.

London Hotel Booking Mr. Barone said that Connecticut had used the roughness index as well as an indicator called the Present Serviceability Rating and a computerized system, called Wisecrax, that gauges pavement stress.

Discount Travel Mr. Barone said the Federal Highway Administration clearly noted the limitations of the data used in the new report. "They do tell you two things: the lower the score, the smoother the ride; and to determine the condition of the road, more analysis is required," he said.

Orlando Hotel Both Connecticut and New Jersey said that the report did not take note of what states were doing on their own to improve road conditions.

Booking Agency Michelle Ernst, a spokeswoman for the Surface Transportation Policy Project, said road conditions made clear that the states were not doing enough. "Had they been using state funds for road repair, the roads would be in much better shape," she said.
