Hannigan earned a masters degree in business administration from the University of Colorado. He also served six years in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service.
He is a member of the Board of the Dallas Citizens Council and the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association. He also served on the Technology Advisory Committee to the Bush-Cheney 2000 Campaign.
