He will continue to serve in a consultancy capacity to Vacation.com and Amadeus until June 30, 2006. Today, Travelocity announced an agreement with Groople Inc., a leading provider of online group travel bookings that gives Travelocity customers a specialized groups section with discounted hotel rates, group content and new planning features that are unavailable on other travel sites. Travel Agency Industry veteran, Steve Tracas, who has an extensive background in travel industry marketing, sales, business development and customer management, will take the reins as CEO of Vacation.com beginning Monday, April 17th. 8mong many firsts for the group market, the new technology platform enables consumers to do something that other sites haven k allowed to book travel and accommodations for more than five rooms in a single online session. Featuring more than 56, 000 hotels, including 7, time group rates, Groople is primed to become the industry largest automated solution for unmanaged group leisure travel, a market estimated at $18 billion to $24 billion. Under its hosted inventory and commission models, Groople generates group bookings niche by niche for hotels and plans to add air, car, cruise, bus and rail later this year. Cheap Hotel My decision to retire from Vacation.com was not an easy one, especially because of the special relationships I have developed with the Vacation.com members and our industry partners, said Knodt. But with Steve as my successor, backed by 16-plus-year industry veteran and COO Brenda Elliott (six years with Vacation.com), Vacation.com and its members can be assured of continued growth and success. The Accor Corporate Contract, available only to businesses, lets you save time by booking hotels at net rates adapted to your volume while optimizing your travel costs. Flight Booking I am proud of the strides and accomplishments we have made during my years at Vacation.com, said Knodt, but I look forward to tackling new opportunities and achieving new successes in our dynamic industry. Travel agents obtain some of their information from the same sources as online booking sites such as Orbitz and Travelocity. They also receive daily emails and faxes with new specials from resorts and hotels that may not be published on the internet. Travel agents can also call a place directly to see if they can work out other kinds of special deals for you, something an online site can’t do. Travel Agent Knodt took over as President and CEO of Vacation.com in 2001 after serving as the organizations Chief Operating Officer for the two and a half years prior. He has served in numerous capacities during his three decades in the travel industry. He has been a multi-location travel agency owner, an educator, a trainer and an industry leader. He has twice served as the top executive running the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA), the largest organization representing the interests of the travel agent industry. New travel plans must be reserved and travel completed one (1) year from the original booking date and are subject to availability. Hotel Chicago Dick has played an instrumental part in the development and growth of Vacation.com into the largest vacation selling network in North America. Under his leadership, Vacation.com has successfully navigated the changes that have come to the travel industry as well as the travel agency community, said David V. Jones, Executive Vice President, Commercial, for Amadeus, of which Vacation.com is a wholly owned subsidiary. Dick has been a staunch supporter of the travel agency community, an area where Amadeus shares his deep commitment. Travel Health Insurance In his new role, Tracas will be based in Vacation.coms Alexandria, VA headquarters and will be responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of the organization serving the U.S. and Canada. Hotel Reservation Tracas brings to Vacation.com a diverse background and extensive experience in the travel industry. Prior to joining Vacation.com, Tracas served as the President of Orbitz for Business, the online travel agencys business unit focused on corporate travel. Tracas has also served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for US Airways and held a number of management positions during his 19-year career with AMR Corp. including positions with American Airlines and Sabre Group.
