In truth, the situation in Catholic biblical scholarship is a bit better than it was a generation ago. After years of throwing every possible skepticism at the Gospel stories, most scholars today no longer doubt the basic historical character of a good portion of the Gospel accounts of Jesus many miracles, or the gospel accounts of his passion.
