TESTBED REGISTRARS - May 25, 1999 The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced today that eight additional applicant companies have met its accreditation criteria and, upon completion of the ongoing testbed program, will be accredited to compete as registrars in the .com, .net, and .org domains. Currently, registration services in the .com, .net, and .org domains are provided by Network Solutions, Inc. (NSI), which has enjoyed an exclusive right to handle registrations under a 1993 Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Government. testbed registrars that were announced by ICANN on April 21, 1999.

Travel Agency (AXcess News) Vancouver BC - ICANN chairman Vint Cerf dropped the .XXX pornography domain discussion at Thursday's ICANN board meeting in Vancouver by saying it had been removed from the agenda. It marked the second time that ICANN has avoided dealing with the creation of a .XXX domain for adult web sites.

Travel Agent The .XXX report was completed in August and in September ICANN passedthe buck and moved its discussion off until the next meeting, which took place Thursday. Now, it appears that conservatives are being heard after Cerf pushed its review back once more.

.Name is one of seven new domain names recently created by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. That' .com, .net and .org. But simple or common names followed by any of those original suffixes are almost all taken, and ICANN has been under substantial pressure to create new cyberterritory. So for the past year ICANN has been rolling out seven additional domains, and critics are saying even the new ones won' up demand for addresses.

Hotel Chicago Recent pressure from the European Community may also have played a role in Thursday's .XXX domain decision. The EU has been arguing that the United States has far too much control over Internet domains and did not want .XXX domains approved.
