SILVER STRAND, CA
BEST SEASONS-
Most consistent in spring and summer. Fall and winter are less consistent but have good days.
CONDITIONS-
Side onshore to side-shore steady winds, west-northwest to north-northwest. Best when there's fog in the morning, also when thermals kick in caused by inland heating. Waves are best on a west swell, but breaks from any direction. There are usually some small waves with lots of smooth water on the inside. For flat water, kite on the bay side. Wind speeds are typically 8-18 knots during peak months, falling off toward fall and winter. The winter months produce pre-frontal south winds and post-frontal north winds. Water temperature in spring/summer is 60-72 degrees; in fall/winter 56-62 degrees.

TIPS-
- The beach be very crowded during summer and on holiday weekends. Go to the parking area farthest south;
kiters need to move as crowds increase.
- The bay side is good riding on east and northeast winds; go through the tunnel to get to the bay area.
- Summer winds start around 11 a.m. and go to 5 or 6 p.m.
- Watch out for the Navy Seals: Their base is just to the north -- don't kite in their space! You will see a fence that marks where their beach begins.
- Silver Strand is mainly a kite spot, no windsurfers ride here.
