British embassy attacked in Iran capital

Prior to the attack on the British embassy, a smaller crowd attacked the German embassy in Tehran. Western officials have said that Iran's rulers have deliberately been encouraging violent protests over the cartoons. In Tehran, the embassies of Britain, France, Germany, Norway, Austria, and Denmark have all come under attack during similar protests. On Monday, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan said that countries such as Iran and Syria which did not protect foreign embassies should pay the cost of damages.

Travel Agency Tehran, Iran, Feb. 08 - Hard-line radical Islamists attacked the British embassy in Tehran on Wednesday, smashing several of its windows, a day after British Prime Minister Tony Blair warned Iran not to make the "mistake" of thinking that the international community would allow it to develop nuclear weapons.

"Death to Tony Blair", they chanted, as they set British flags on fire. They also burnt American, French, German, and Israeli flags as they chanted slogans such as "Death to Britain", "Death to France", "Death to Germany", and "Death to Israel". Several embassy windows were shattered during the attack. liners called for the expulsion of British ambassador Sir Richard Dalton and the closure of the British embassy, which has come under several similar attacks over the past week.

Cheap Hotel The demonstrators who were affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards threw stones and sticks at the embassy while chanting, "Death to Britain".

Iran Focus Tehran, Iran, Sep. Tehran's State Security Forces denied on Monday that there were two explosions near the British embassy in the Iranian capital on Sunday evening. "Last night there were no explosions near the Istanbul Square", the chief police spokesman said, referring to the site of the embassy compound.

Flight Booking The International Atomic Energy Agency's board of governors adopted on Saturday a resolution sponsored by London, along with Paris and Berlin, reporting Iran to the United Nations Security Council for breaches of its international obligations regarding its suspected nuclear weapons program.

Previous demonstrations by the Bassij outside the British embassy in Tehran resulted in attacks on the embassy compound. August, line members of the Islamist organisation rallied outside the embassy, chanting "death to England" (sic.) and demanding that British "spies" leave the country. They pelted the compound with rocks and tomatoes, trampled on American and Israeli flags, and set them on fire.
