Travel Agent                      Melioidosis is an infection caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei. The disease is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in Thailand, Southeast Asia and northern Australia. Current method for the diagnosis of melioidosis is based on bacteriological culture. However, the method is timeconsuming. In this present study, we evaluated the usage of indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (indirect ELISA) using crude culture filtrate antigen for detecting specific IgG. The indirect ELISA was studied in 219 sera. Of 219 sera, 89 are sera from melioidosis patients, 72 are sera from patients with other bacterial infections, and 58 are normal sera from healthy populations living in endemic area. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value are 82.02%, 86.92%, 81.11%, and 87.60%, respectively.

London Hotel Booking                      Monoclonal antibody directed against the major component of Burkholderia pseudomallei crude culture filtrate and outer membrane protein antigens, the 30kDa protein, was used to monitor cloning and expression of the gene from B. pseudomallei genomic DNA libraries. The gene was analyzed and recombinant protein was produced in Escherichia coli JM 105. A DNA sequence analysis of the 30kDa gene revealed the presence of an open reading frame that encoded a protein having 290 amino acid residues and a calculated molecular weight of 31-kDa. Our result of the 30kDa protein provides a basis for further biochemical analysis, immunostimulatory study, investigation of the role of this protein in hostpathogen interactions and development of rapid and specific diagnosis system for melioidosis.
