Hotel Booking Borough Commission on Tuesday night approved a disputed swap of land in a wetlands buffer zone on Fifth Avenue. The swap, which has split the commission and even the environmental community into two camps, was approved in a 2-1 vote. Mayor Robert Jackson and Commissioner Kevin Lare voted for the swap. Commissioner Pam Kaithern voted against it.

Travel Agency Pearl Avenue resident Kim Allen recently purchased the Fifth Avenue property that encroaches on borough-owned land. The septic system, driveway and part of the house are on borough property inside a wetlands buffer. Hotel Chicago Kaithern, however, produced a letter at the meeting from the state Department of Environmental Protection that suggested more study be done on the two tracts before a decision is made. She said the DEP stance is that wetlands maps are "a tool and not a rule" and field verification is needed. She pushed for an independent appraisal.

Online Booking "It seems extremely risky and a huge gamble to hastily make this exchange," Kaithern said.

Travel Health Insurance Jackson and Lare criticized Kaithern for presenting the information from the DEP at the last minute. Kaithern said her computer was down over the weekend or she would have informed them.

London Hotel Booking After the meeting, Kaithern said she is not convinced the swap is not good for the borough, but she wants all the facts because the deal is "setting a precedent." Discount Travel Jackson said it "frosted my cake" that Kaithern had a letter from DEP Land Use Regulation official Kevin Broderick and did not share it with the rest of the commission.

International Travel Medical Jany Baymor, Pritchard's neighbor and also a member of the Environmental Commission, supported the swap.

Online Travel Booking Second Avenue resident Dick Rigby urged the commission to sell the borough-owned land on the open market.

Travel Medical Insurance Lissy Fritz, a Pearl Avenue resident, said the commission should not do the swap because there is the appearance of a conflict since Allen is on the local Shade Tree Commission and her husband, Joe Erthal, is on the Planning Board. Fritz argued Allen purchased the property knowing it encroached on borough-owned land. Allen confirmed after the meeting she did know before the purchase.

Miami Hotel Jackson defended Allen and Erthal. He noted they suffer drainage problems at the home they live in on Pearl Avenue due to an engineering mistake that funnels water onto their land from a nearby condominium project.

Air Deccan Booking Sixth Avenue resident Joe Gilmartin asked if other options have been explored, such as moving Allen's Fifth Avenue house off the borough-owned land. Gilmartin also wanted more information on the value of the properties.

Las Vegas Nevada Travel Jackson said the swap still has another level of scrutiny as it now goes before the local Planning Board.
