Travel Agency Regulations proposed in the Big Map, or Blueprint for Intelligent Growth, will be added to the State Plan map drawn up more than 10 years ago, state Department of Environmental Protection Commis-sioner Bradley Campbell said Monday.

Travel Agent The Big Map seemed a simple enough concept when first introduced in January.

London Hotel Booking "One of the problems is the Big Map has become like a piata, and it's not really the colors on the map that matter - it's the rules and regulations and how they protect the environment and stop sprawl," Tittel said.

Discount Travel The goal of the Big Map - to make it tougher to develop in environmentally sensitive areas - survives, Campbell said.

Orlando Hotel "From Day One the objective has been to integrate environmental data into the state map," Campbell said.

Booking Agency The DEP will introduce rules to the state Planning Commission that let officials scrutinize development plans in environmentally sensitive areas and fast-track approvals in places slated for growth.

International Travel Medical Campbell also forwarded natural-resource data, including maps of everything from the presence of endangered species to important water supplies, to the state's Office of Smart Growth.

New York Hotel Planners are now working to incorporate the data into the State Plan map, and the proposed revisions likely will be considered sometime next year.

Travel Medical Insurance State Plan supporters said the decision to scrap the Big Map will make their map stronger and let builders and environmentalists know that the state is serious about building in the right places.

Miami Hotel "(The Big Map) is dead, but it has moved the whole process forward," said Barbara Lawrence, director of the anti-sprawl watchdog New Jersey Future.

Air Deccan Booking Dave Pringle of the New Jersey Environmental Federation, which supported the Big Map plan, was similarly upbeat.

Las Vegas Nevada Travel "DEP has been developing and will continue to develop natural resources data that should be a critical component of where we build," Pringle said. "DEP is not ceding any of its authority to the state Planning Commission."

Las Vegas Nv Hotel But the Sierra Club's Tittel said the success of the Big Map initiatives depend on whether its regulations are actually incorporated into the state plan.
